Day 19, 20, 21,... 26...

Well, there went a whole week of not posting. That is not to say that nothing happened in my quest for health. It just means that nothing good happened. I did do some exercises, though not as regularly as I would like, and we still haven't really gotten on the running bandwagon again. Casie has not been eating very well and we haven't been eating well as a couple either. This has bad effects as I'm sure anyone in a relationship can testify.

Oh well, this next week is the start of my new job so I am hoping that things will calm down a little and I will be able to start regularly exercising.

Day 18...

Today was a great day as far as the whole exercise thing goes. I ran today and I did some pull-ups. I did only a total of 5 pull-ups today (1 set of 3, another of 2).

...and then I ate a burger and seasoned curly fries. Good for me.

Day 17...

Today was pretty good. I DID NOT get to run AGAIN but, things will start to come together. As our life stabilizes a little bit exercise will get easier. Anyway, dinner was not great for us but not terrible either. Plus I didn't eat too much of it which goes a long way.

Day 16...

Well today was a bigger success than my past few have been. I ate a reasonably sized dinner, even if its contents were not healthy at all, and I worked out.

I did my push-ups but I did not do my sit-ups because I worked out at the exercise room instead. Kicking and kneeing a punching bag actually works out your abs more than you would think.

Tomorrow, we are back on our running routine. It will be a bit frustrating for me and my wife as we are going to have to do 3 more runs at the current level because we took another break. I think this will make the fourth or fifth time that we have run this set because of breaks. Each time we slide back a little farther. Oh well. just have to keep on working I guess.

Day 15...

Well, yesterday was a total wash as far as my intentions to work out. I started talking to Melanie and by the time I got off the phone, it was too late to go running. Unfortunately, I was not feeling very well yesterday so I didn't even do my push-ups or sit-ups. No good.

I just have to make sure that it gets done tomorrow I guess. I have to get back on the running pattern or I will never achieve my goal.

Day 12, 13, 14...

So much for my resolution to post everyday. I still want to do that but I think that I need some more routine in my life.

For both day 12 and 13, I have been incredibly sore. I went to the exercise room on day 12 and did a 45 minute workout that was fairly intense. That was a mistake. It has been about 1 1/2 years since my last round like that. I have been very very sore.

Oh well, I have kept my work-outs up and on schedule but not my running. That changes on Monday. I am feeling stronger every day and hopefully I will increase my pull-up capacity.

I still have not had any dessert since I decided to give it up until Halloween.

Day 11...

I have been in a bit of a funk lately. I have been sitting and doing CADD at work and then when I get home I have been sitting, watching tv, and programming. Basically I sit for 16 hours a day. Whenever this happens I get a little depressed and stir crazy.

Luckily, I have an awesome wife. She made me go down to the exercise room yesterday so that I could beat the crap out of the wavemaster punching bag that is down there. It felt great.

I spent about 45 minutes down there. I also did my push-ups. Overall I would say that I did pretty well.

Unfortunately, we had pizza for dinner yesterday.

Day 8, 9, & 10...

I haven't been posting for a while. Hopefully this will be my longest absence. I have been having a fairly crazy few days.

Anyway, on the health front:

I have resolved to not eat any sweets between now and Holloween. I broke the rule once, but it was on my anniversary with my wife which I think is a valid excuse.

Other than that I have been doing a lot more exercising and feeling pretty good. The turbulence of the past week has messed up the running schedule that I am trying to keep with my wife but tomorrow we should be back on schedule.

This was the general update to catch things up on the past few days. I am going to try to post every single day from now on so there shouldn't be any more of these.

Day 6...

Sunday was a good day. We ran today. It went pretty well but it was too hot and that made it difficult to run, especially for my wife. I got through it all but I was pretty sweaty.

Also, I did 6 pull-ups (2 sets of 3). That is an improvement of 1 per set over last week.

I am also going to do my push-ups and sit-ups tonight.

As a side note, I am giving up candy, sugar, sweets of any kind until Holloween.

Day 5...

Saturday was interesting. We didn't do anything in terms of exercise. CrossFit had a rest day. As difficult as it is for me to observe the rest days I must force myself to. I have a tendency to continue exercising and not giving my body time to recover. We are still on the same rotation for the running cycles but we are not exercising that today (even though we should according to our schedule). Things just came up and we had to move our exercise plans to tomorrow.

Day 4...

Today was a big day. I had to go to the local electrical supplier for a seminar on VFDs (one of their products) and then I had to go to an interview. I had plans for everthing. I thought that I would get up a little earlier than usual, I would print off resumes, put everything in my bag, have some sort of toast for breakfast, blah, blah blah. The result of this scenario is a well pre-pared, sharp looking, rested me...

That all fell apart when I went to bed at midnight.

Then I woke up at 7:15. Not a good start to the day. Needless to say I had to look sharp for the interview (which takes more effort than one might expect when you first look at me (believe me, I'm joking)) so the things that got tossed out the window are toast for breakfast, extra copies of my resumes and most of the "blah"s mentioned above.

I rush out the door and get to the seminar just in time. Luckily they provided breakfast: Krispy Kreme donuts.

I had two!!! I needed some caffeine and I don't particularly like black coffee so I went with soda: Mountain Dew, the regular kind, not the diet kind.

So I rush out of the seminar to my interview, and rush back afterwards. Along the way back I stop at some place that will give me good, cheap food: McDonalds.

On the upside, I did my push-ups and sit-ups tonight.

Day 3...

I grow weaker by the day.
You may notice that this is NOT the correct date for my third day of posting. That is because I was lazy and did not feel like sitting on my but AND doing something else (that is pretty lazy).

I feel pretty good about today. I had not too bad of food but, I did have a sandwich from Jimmy Johns. It never matters how healthy you think you are eating because I guarantee that sandwich had more calories and did more damage than you would think possible by a sandwich.

On the up side I did run today. I ran for the same interval as last recorded. That was it. I don't think that I ate too much for dinner this time either.

Overall, not a bad day.

Day 2

Well, this day was not terribly productive.

Today I didn't do any exercise. CrossFit had a rest day and I took this opportunity to let my muscles rest up from my pull-ups yesterday.

Unfortunately, I also went to Dairy Queen with my wife. I also ate too much for dinner. So, during my "rest day" I worked AGAINST my goal...

...something to work on.

Day 1

Today, I maintained a bit of control through my day, although I should work more fruits and vegetables into my snacks through out the day.

My excercise for today consisted of jogging in the following pattern:

walk 5:00
run 1:30
walk 1:30
run 3:00
walk 3:00
run 1:30
walk 1:30
run 3:00
walk 3:00

I also did 5 pull-ups (2 sets of 2, on either end of my run) and 5 bar dips.

I am following two workout web-sites: www.crossfit.com & www.coolrunning.com

Crossfit is just a straight-forward kick-your-ass workout program that embodies what I think fitness is and the coolrunning web site I am following the couch to 5k program.
